We’re built on 50 years of yesterday to ensure you get the best for today and tomorrow. From its modest beginnings in 1948 with two trucks, Grimshaw Trucking L.P. has grown into a highly respected transportation company in Western Canada and continues to expand.

Our history actually started before 1948, when Albert Hamilton began work on the Alaska Highway project. When completed he moved to Grimshaw, Alberta and began hauling cement from the railhead in Grimshaw to Hay River and return with fish. At the time there was just a bush trail north of Grimshaw. Then in the 50’s Grimshaw began service from Edmonton to Hay River. Early in 1960 they purchased the Peace River operation from Northern Freightways. In 1964 they began service to Grande Prairie and Calgary. In 1965 they purchased Ed’s Transport from High Prairie. In 1967 service opened up into Slave Lake. During the winter of 1967 we were instrumental in building a road into Waterways, Alberta. This is now known as Fort McMurray. Many parts of the road were over muskeg and required the service of a bombardier and across the smaller creeks logs were used to help support the weight.

In 1973 Northern Transportation Co. Ltd. acquired us, a northern waterways Barge Corporation owned by the Government of Canada. During 1976 service was started to Hinton. In 1985 NTCL was sold to the Inuvialuit from the Western Arctic and the Inuits from the Eastern Arctic. It was during this ownership that service began to Edson, Valleyview and Fox Creek through an acquisition. In 1988 service was started from Calgary to Cranbrook, Lethbridge, Castlegar, Kelowna and Kamloops. In 1995 Mullen Transportation Inc., the current owners, acquired Grimshaw Trucking L.P. In 1996 Spendiff Transport was acquired and service was improved to High Prairie. In 2000 we discontinued service to Calgary, Southern Alberta and Southern B.C. to concentrate our efforts on improving service to all points north of Highway 16 in Alberta, British Columbia and the NWT. In 2001 we acquired Blu’s Logististic (a transportation provider to the Yukon), Swan Hills Transport and Basic Transport providing service to Swan Hills and Slave Lake.

With the dedication of our employees and customers, we have been recognized for our innovation, dependability and customer service, making us a leader in the transportation industry. Our commitment to the over 200 communities that we service continually makes us strive for excellence and attributes to our ongoing success.
